Crate training is essential. A crate should NEVER be used as a form of punishment. Use a comfy bed or blanket as well as their favorite treats and toys to make your pomsky feel like their crate is their special space to go when they need to relax and feel safe. A dog who is properly trained will be better prepared if they have to spend any overnighters at the vet, travel, move, need to be in their crate for safety, etc.
Helps remove loose fur when they're blowing their coat and rid of stubborn tangles in long coats. You can use any brand you prefer but this one has a comfortable handle and is durable, so we like it.
Of note! You will hear people tell you to stay away from Furminator because it ruins your pomskys coat. This is a false statement. Furminator is a BRAND and not necessarily a hard no. You do want to avoid all tools that cut or damage the undercoat, so stick to a basic rake like the one pictured here.
A slicker brush is great for keeping tangles at bay and leaving your pup with a soft, silky coat. We like this one for it's push-button self clean feature.
A lot of people don't realize that changes in the weather and esposure ot elements can affect your dogs' skin just like it does your own. Once a week application of nose and paw balm should be great to keep our pack happy and looking great.
We feed our pack Purina Pro Plan Small breed. Stay with puppy chow until your fur baby is at least one year old before transitioning to adult food.
A diverse and balanced diet is just as important to your dogs immune system as your own! You can safely offer your fur baby a variety of human food as a special great as well. Some of our favorites are chicken, turkey, pumpkin, eggs, yogurt, apples, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, carrots, peanut butter, and sweet potatoes.
Providing something for your dog to chew on is essential. It is great for dental health, physical health and mental stimulation. Single ingredient animal chews are a great option. We like to offer things like Yak Cheese, Bully Sticks, real ears (cow, pig, water buffalo, lamb), and raw bones.
Never offer cooked bones or rawhide.
As a huge advocate for positive reinforcement, I can say there are MANY great brands of treats out there, but we find ourselves offering Zukes and WAG brand to our pups most often.
The first few weeks after you get your new pomsky you should focus on bonding with your puppy, teaching them their new name, and potty training. When you're ready to start on the basics we exclusively recommend positive reinforcement technique. There is a TON of incredible dog trainers who offer local in person classes. We love Zac George who shares free training lessons on YouTube as well as a free 30-day puppy bootcamp course!
